Creating NSS Volumes on Open Enterprise Server Linux

11 March 2005

With the launch of OES, I wanted to get a quick tip out for those installing OES with the Linux platform.

Be careful when planning and creating NSS volumes on the SLES box. NSS uses EVMS, which can create problems if the /boot partition is on the same disk as the NSS pools. The simplest solution is to keep the /boot partition on a separate disk from the NSS volumes.

The /boot partition and the NSS volumes can coexist on the same disk if SLES9 is installed with EVMS as the default partition manager or by patching the kernel.

For specific instructions on EVMS in OES, see this documentation article.
